At Eccleston Square Hotel we’re very interested in technology and believe we’ll be the first hotel in the world to feature 3D TV’s in every room! We’ll also have super-sized 3D TV screens in the Media & Video Conference Lounges on the Ground Floor.
So our visit to the Sports Bar & Grill in Victoria Station wasn’t just about enjoying their wide range of lagers and watching sport! It was all about 3D viewing research. The Sports Bar & Grill gave us the chance to sample 3D TV’s displaying Sky 3D in a public environment. We are currently deciding on which 3D TV’s to select for the hotel, and we’re also really excited at the prospect of working with Sky to promote their market leading 3D content as they intend to bring the 3D experience into our homes.
The Sports Bar & Grill in Victoria Station is one of a limited number of venues in London with 3D screens where you can view Sky Sports 3D, so all in the name of research we had to go (Victoria station is also only 5 minutes walk from Eccleston Square!).
The Sports Bar & Grill is at the front of the station facing the bus station and main entrance to the underground ticket hall. The bar is upstairs and overlooks the interior of the railway station, so is a great place for relaxing while watching the thousands of busy people bustle about their commute! It is also of course a great place for grabbing a drink or bite to eat while waiting for a train or other Victoria adventures.
There were plenty of beers to choose from but at typical London pricing of up to £4 per pint, however the menu looked surprisingly good value with a very wide range of pub and English grill classic dishes, we didn’t eat this time (we were here for the TVs!) but it would be a tempting re-visit.
Although it’s essentially just one large rectangular room, there was a good atmosphere of calm and a deconstructed, industrial look about its design that makes it down to Earth. The team are very friendly and helpful, engaging, with table service and offers of help and more drinks.
We visited the Victoria Sports Bar & Grill on a Thursday after 4pm and it was pleasantly populated but when a sports event is on, this is the place to be and if it’s not packed, it should be and you should go there! They’ve got 17 large TV screens regularly spaced around the walls of the room including 2 3D screens and a large projection screen size option - you won’t miss a thing, wherever you are in the room.
After seeing the 3D TVs in action I can’t wait to get them installed at Eccleston Square Hotel, the depth of the view in a stadium is amazing and it adds a whole new perception of the crosses of footballers, drives of golfers and tackles of rugby. We can’t wait for the London 2012 Olympics in 3D!
