Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is famous for being closely linked to the Royal Family.

Westminster Abbey has been the venue for many historic events such as coronations and Royal Weddings while it has also been the final resting place for 17 monarchs throughout British history.

Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066 and the church you see today was first begun by Henry III in 1245. The church is recognised as being one of the most important Gothic Buildings in Britain and it also contains a medieval shrine of an Anglo-Saxon saint at the heart of the building. The building itself is located just west of Houses of Parliament and is located on the grounds of a former Benedictine monastery. The most famous events to have taken place here include Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953 and Prince William & Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding in 2011.
